Development Intern - Summer

Summary:

The Philadelphia Orchestra Association seeks a bright, motivated and outgoing person to fill the position of Development Intern for the Philadelphia Orchestra Association’s Development department. This person should be eager to learn new skills in the fundraising arena.  The Development Intern would work in a fast-paced environment on the following:

Essential Functions:

  1. Set up of donor solicitations and input of donor research information
  2. Participate in the planning, management, and execution of fundraising and cultivation events
  3. Participate in social media efforts and building web presence for Development department
  4. Assist with online fundraising opportunities
  5. Assist with the preparation of donor acknowledgement letters, correspondence, proposals, reports, and other communications
  6. Assist with Stewardship projects as needed
  7. Assist the Academy of Music Restoration program as needed
  8. Serve as a liaison (when appropriate and necessary) to other staff to facilitate meetings and preparation of materials
  9. Assist with updating/changing donor records in Tessitura
  10. Provide administrative support as needed—such as filing, scanning, etc.
  11. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills, highly organized, detail-focused, and customer service oriented
  2. Ability to work on a multitude of tasks and with highly confidential information
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research 
  4. Strong ability to learn and grasp new computer programs quickly 

Hours: 

10 - 20 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work required. Ideally candidate should be available to start Late April, Early May 2012. This internship is unpaid.

Artistic Planning Intern - Fall 2012

Summary:

The Artistic Planning Intern will provide assistance in the administrative and logistical coordination of The Philadelphia Orchestra concerts and presentations. The Artistic Planning Intern provides support for the department, and reports to Artistic Administrator.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with guest artist needs, including providing transportation from/to hotel and hall and setting up dressing rooms.
  2. Participate in concert duty rotation and provide backstage support for guest artists.
  3. Assist with visa applications for guest artists.
  4. Assist in contract administration and management: issue artist contracts using OPAS database, circulate for approval, and obtain all parties’ signature for full execution.
  5. Process artist fee payments, and handle all necessary paperwork, including tax forms.
  6. Assist with special projects, such as audition coordination, ancillary activities planning and execution.
  7. Manage artist score and music material submissions.
  8. Provide administrative support for department staff as needed.
  9. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of classical music and artists.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Good project management and research skills.
  4. Valid driver’s license.
  5. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  6. Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, interest/ knowledge of database management a plus.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills.

Intern must be available minimum of 15 - 20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours. This is an unpaid internship, and can be applied towards college credit.
